NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 2005--
Award Presented to Director Taggart Siegel for "The Real Dirt on Farmer John"; Presentation takes place Saturday, April 16 at Regal Green Hills Stadium 16
On Saturday, April 16, former Vice President Al Gore will present a special award during the 36th Annual Nashville Film Festival to director, Taggart Siegel, for his documentary, The Real Dirt on Farmer John. The award is sponsored by a new independent cable network, whose name will be announced in early April. The presentation will take place prior to the 3:30pm screening of the film at the Regal Green Hills Stadium 16.
The award is given to a documentary that best provides extraordinary insight into a contemporary global issue. The Real Dirt on Farmer John was chosen by Mr. Gore out of five documentaries scheduled to screen at the Festival.
The Nashville Film Festival approached local resident Mr. Gore about presenting this award upon learning of his love of documentaries and the exciting new information medium which he's helping to develop.
"I am exceptionally pleased and proud to announce this new association between the Nashville Film Festival and Vice President Al Gore," says Alan Brewer, NaFF Board President. "For our film festival to have a relationship with Mr. Gore seems only natural, given his continuing commitment to making this a better world, and his appreciation of the documentary genre."
The Real Dirt on Farmer John is a profile of Illinois farmer John Peterson, who transcends conventional farming methods to build a thriving organic farm and a progressive farm community. The film was produced by Teri Lang of the San Francisco-based company Collective Eye, Inc. A repeat screening of the film will take place on Monday, April 18 at 4:00pm.
"Presenting this award at the 2005 Nashville Film Festival is a valuable method to help generate more awareness of issues that affect all of us," says Gore. "I chose Farmer John for its moving account of the importance of organic farming, told with insight and humor through the life of a very unique and committed individual."
The 36th Annual Nashville Film Festival takes place Thursday, April 14 - Thursday, April 21 at the Regal Green Hills Stadium 16. Tickets go on sale March 24, 2005 and can be purchased online at www.ticketweb.com or by phone at 1-800-965-4827. The Festival Box Office will open at Regal Cinemas on Saturday, April 9, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm and run throughout the Festival.
